Sarah Maine
was born in Stonington, CT to Jeremiah and Ruth (Brown) Main. She married Hezekiah Cole of Plainfield, CT in 1725. They went on to have nine children. Sarah was a recipient of her fathers will in 1734 where she received a total of about 20 shillings. After her husband Hezekiah died in 1790 she moved to Plainfield, New Hampshire to live with her son Deacon Ebenezer Cole and his family who had moved to NH some years earlier and now had a farm on River Road in Plainfield. She died in 1799 at age 93 and was buried in the Cole Family Plot at River Cemetery on River Road in Plainfield, NH. The gravestone is in remarkably good condition for its age.

Abigail "Nabby" Ames
was born in Natick, MA. Her parents are unknown.

Apparently her family moved to Concord, VT because at age 15 (1794) she first met Stephen Cole at a "pleasure party" there. They married at the residence of her father in 1800 in Concord. After 10 years of farming in the Concord area,

Abigail, Stephen and their first four children (all boys) moved to Navy (now West Charleston), Vermont and began a new life there, living in a log hut. Her husband Daniel built the first grist mill in 1810 and the first frame house in the area in 1811. The couple went on to have nine children, most who worked at the family farm while young.

A diamond anniversary party was given for Abigail and Stephen in 1870 when they were both 89 years old. All their children had moved away or died so only two grandchildren (plus their many local friends) attended the party in West Charleston.

The couple lived alone now and widow Abigail (Ames) Cole died about three years after her husband in 1876. She was buried in West Charleston Rural Cemetery next to Stephen. They share a common gravestone with their daughter Mary Ames Cole, who died in 1817 as a newborn.
